2008 Vocational Service Project

Update

Your Vocational Service Committee:
Patricia Bintliff, Tim Brown, Laura Dietz and Chuck Iverson

We held our first Success Skills Workshop this past Saturday at the Salvation Army. The Success Coaches were Tim Brown and Patricia Bintliff. We worked on skills identification and skill transfer. We have 14 clients in our group and you will find more information on all of these men below.

Our most elderly client is 58 and our youngest client is 23. Their professions range from law to car customization. We have an artist, a plumber, and a hotel bellman among many others. They are a very diverse group which will poses some challenges for our success coaches. Most are in Phase II of their Work Therapy  program meaning that they are ready to begin their job search, some within a few days.

The Success Day at Working Wardrobes will be held on April 19th. Please mark your calendars for that day. We will need volunteers to act as "personal shoppers" for our clients as they choose their "working" wardrobes. The personal shoppers will help fit the men and help match their accessories. Click here for some photos of last year's Success Day. The event will take place from 9:00 am to approximately 12:00 noon. We would like every member of our club to at come by, even if only for a few minutes, to meet our clients. Chris Szechenyi has asked his hairdresser if she would volunteer her time and she has graciously agreed. If any of you know a masseuse who might be interested in donating his/her services, please let one of us know.

Graduation will follow the last workshop on May 3rd. All club members will be invited and urged to attend as this is the culmination of our efforts with this group of men. Again, please mark you calendar now.  When the graduates see a large gathering from our club at the culminating event, they are sent a strong message that we care about their future and what happens to them after our workshops.
