2008 Vocational Service

Update

Your Vocational Service Committee:
Patricia Bintliff, Tim Brown, Laura Dietz and Chuck Iverson

We held our fourth Success Skills Workshop this past Saturday at the Salvation Army. The Success Coaches were Tim Brown, Laura Dietz, Kareem George and Richard Hanki. We reviewed the draft application each client worked on during the week, and those were passed back with our comments. In addition we answered some specific questions regarding "gaps" in employment which is a difficult issue for all of our clients. We also began a discussion on Business Etiquette which included such workplace issues as harassment, personal relationships with fellow employees, and unethical practices. Again, to make it more interesting we had the clients role play several of these issues to demonstrate what is acceptable and expected and what is not. It was a great workshop!

Next week, is Success Day at Working Wardrobes. Many in our club will act as "personal shoppers" for our clients as the pick-out their new business attire. They will be getting their hair styled, working on resumes' and seeking club members out. This means several of you will have the opportunity to share your experience in the workplace with anyone of our clients. Your Vocational Service Committee is looking forward to having you meet these terrific men.

The Success Day at Working Wardrobes will be held next Saturday April 19th. We will have the sign-up sheet available at our breakfast meeting on Tuesday along with maps to find Working Wardrobes in Fountain Valley. Click here for some photos of last year's Success Day. The event will take place from 9:00 am to approximately 12:00 noon. We would like every member of our club to at come by, even if only for a few minutes, to meet our clients and let them know you, as a member of our club, support them in their recovery and re-entry into the workplace. This particular piece is vital to our clients and is what makes what we are doing to meet our vocational service charge so special.

Graduation will follow the last workshop on May 3rd. All club members will be invited and urged to attend as this is the culmination of our efforts with this group of men. Again, please mark you calendar now.  When the graduates see a large gathering from our club at the culminating event, they are sent a strong message that we care about their future and what happens to them after our workshops.
